HERITAGE
The healing thermal water in Dobrna was already known to the Celts and Romans, while the first official record of the spa and thermal spring dates back to 1403. The mineral-rich water comes from a depth of approximately 1,200 metres and is piped into 12 marble baths from 1874. The thermal water is also suitable for daily drinking.

RUINS
On the hill above Lokovina stand the ruins of a castle that was the seat of the Dobrna lordship for many centuries. It was built before 1257 and remained a safe home for the castle gentry until the earthquake in 1772. The local name Kačji grad has been preserved after Matija von Gačnik, one of the owners in the 17th century.
Route description: From Hotel Vita, follow the road towards Lokovina, turn left at the third intersection, and follow the signs.

MANOR
Franc Ksaver Dienersberg built the Neuhaus manor, today’s Novi grad, on the plain below the castle Kačji grad. In front of it stands an ancient lion from Ranšperg Castle, and the image is completed by turrets and wooden decorations from the 19th century. Today, the Dobrna Training and Care Centre operates in the building.

MANOR
The manor Dobrnica, once called Gutenek, was probably built in the 17th century. In 1822, it was bought by the owner of the Dobrna lordship and spa, Baron Kajetan Dienersberg, and in 1851 it was converted into one of the oldest breweries in Slovenia. The renovated building still preserves early Baroque details and remains of the former park.
Route description: In the centre, turn towards Hudičev graben. The manor house stands at the junction of the roads for villages Klanc and Zavrh.

NATURAL HERITAGE
Not far from the manor Dobrnica, a natural limestone cave is hidden, once called Bierkeller. It was expanded into an ice storage for cooling beer from the manor brewery. The ice, which was harvested in winter from nearby ponds, could be preserved in the cold cave until the end of summer.
Route description: Continue past the manor Dobrnica towards Hudičev graben and follow the signpost for the cave.
Before visiting: Complete the last part of the route on foot. The ground can be wet and slippery, so we recommend suitable footwear..

BAROQUE
The central church of Dobrna was built in 1844 on the ruins of an older sanctuary. The vault is decorated with frescoes by Tomaž Fantoni, while the interior preserves tombstones of the Gačnik family, a gilded sculpture of the Assumption of Mary from 1740, and a winged altar with original images of saints from the 15th century.

OLD MILLS
Seven mills once operated below Temnjak Hill. The best preserved is the more than 450-year-old Vovk Mill, which also ground grain for the Dobrna lordship at the castle Kačji grad. It was renovated in 2007, and its special feature is the preserved stamps, a rare part of former milling equipment.
Route description: From the centre, head towards Celje, turn towards Novi grad, and continue past Kačji grad.
Before visiting: The interior of the mill can be viewed by prior arrangement with the owners.

CHURCH
The church was first mentioned in 1567, but its origins date back to the early 16th century. A Roman tombstone relief of the warrior Aurelius Victor is built into the southern wall, while the interior is characterised by a Renaissance statue of St. Nicholas, Baroque altars, candlesticks, and a Way of the Cross with inscriptions in the Bohorič alphabet. It is considered the most beautiful cultural and artistic monument in the vicinity of Dobrna.
Route description: From the centre, follow the road past the entrance of the former Vila Ružička and continue uphill across the bridge.
Sights can be visited individually or connected according to time, interests, and route difficulty. The suggestions below create meaningful stories, from a light walk to a longer exploration of the Dobrna surroundings.
For a light introduction to the history of Dobrna, visit St. Mary’s Church and Novi grad. Both points are close to the spa core and suitable for a short stop between other experiences.
Start the route at Novi grad, then continue towards the ruins of Kačji grad. This way, you get to know two seats connected to the Dobrna lordship and its owners in one trip.
Connect the manor Dobrnica – Gutenek with the Ledenica cave. The path reveals how the manor brewery and the natural cold store were once part of the same practical story.
For a longer trip, head to the Valley of Mills and Vovk Mill. The path connects castle traces, the stream, and technical heritage that was powered by water for centuries.
